Car Insurance Eagle (Car Insurance). My car won't fit the computer for the check engine light?

My car won't fit the computer for the check engine light? I took my 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse RS to Autozone two days ago because the check engine light was on. The guy tried to connect his little computer thingy (to get the codes), but he said my port didn't fit his computer...He said any car after 1995 was supposed to have the same port...but obviously mine doesn't. So now what?

take it somewhere else or ask for someone different. maybe he was just trying to plug it into the wrong place. I believe that you should go to another shop & get your ride tested. . . OBD 1 is for casr prior to 95 and OBD ll is for cars after 95. Autozone should be able to read both systems. I wouldn't trust what the auto store guy said. You can get a diagram of the OBD-II connector and see if it has the same look and number of pins and shape etc. If it does, you'll know the guy made a mistake. I would guess that it's the correct OBD-II connector, especially if your Mitsubishi dealer's shop says that it is too. Then buy your own OBD-II code reader or scanner from http://www.actron.com Your Mitsubishi dealer is the best place to have a scanner hooked up to get much more than just the error codes and really be able to diagnose the problem anyways. Just pay the diagnostic test fee and get the car fixed wherever you prefer. Find good local independent shops at http://www.IATN.net/shopfinder they make different code analyzers I suggest taking it to some one that knows what he is doing.... it should be the same just a dumb square lookin plug in. should be under dash towards the bottom of it... there is 2. a yellow looking one and a white one. the yellow one has more of a male end and the white has a female end more or less to were when u plug a code reader into it it slides its plugs inside of it... the yellow one is made to plug in to sumthing it has its own prongs in the inside of it. soooo take it to sum one that knows wat there doing that guy was stupid. ur white one might be hidden up in there sum were just loook. here is a picture of it pretty much the same thing... its not exact but it will show u wat the one ur looking for looks like. good luck also wanting to make sure of wat i said... ur looking for the white lookin one. http://www.dsmtalk.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=2711&size=big&cat=500&page=1 It does, he just didn't do it right.

Eagle . How to Rebuild a Cylinder Head

Rebuilding the engine cylinder head on your car is an involved process that requires attention to detail. However, working systematically and focusing on one part of the job at a time, you can reach your goal in a matter of days. Depending on your knowledge and skills, it is better to work along with a more experienced person and follow the advice of a machine shop, which can work on the more precise job like head inspection and reconditioning.
Difficulty:Moderately Challenging
Instructions Things You'll Need
Ratchet and socket Valve spring compressor Needle-nose pliers Gasket scraper Solvent Wire brush Micrometer Straight edge Feeler gauge New oil seals

Step by Step :
1
Remove each rocker arm, valve, valve keeper, oil seal, valve spring and the rest of the valve assembly. Use a ratchet and socket, valve spring compressor and needle-nose pliers. Keep each valve and related parts in a properly labeled plastic bag. This will help you assemble the valve set in its exact same place unles you need to replace them.
2
Clean the head from old gasket material, carbon buildup, sludge and remaining deposits around the head, coolant and oil passages. Use a gasket scraper, solvent and a wire brush. If the head has hard buildup or sludge on it, it is a better idea to take it to a machine shop where it can be cleaned with special equipment.
3
Inspect the head for cracks and the valve seats for burns, cracks and pits. Also, check the camshaft for wear and damage, and make sure it is within the manufacturer specifications using a micrometer. You can find these specifications in the vehicle service manual for your particular engine. See Tips for more information.
4
Examine the head for warping using a straight edge and a feeler gauge. Lay the edge of the straightedge diagonally and lengthwise on the gasket surface of the head. You should get no more than 0.003 inches of gap between any two points within six inches below the straight edge. If necessary, send the head to the machine shop for resurfacing.
5
Check the rocker arms, pushrods, studs, valve guides and stems for wear and damage. If there is too much wear or damage on any of these parts, take the head to a machine shop where they can measure valve seats, valve guides and related components if necessary. The head might need rectification and new parts.
6
Assemble the head using new oil seals once all the parts have been thoroughly cleaned and inspected. Make sure to assemble each valve assembly in its corresponding place unless you are replacing parts with new ones.
Tips & Warnings
Consult your vehicle service manual for manufacturer specifications on your engine model. You can buy a manual at most auto parts stores or consult one for free at your local public library.

Eagle . How to Rebuild SBC Heads

The condition of the heads should be determined before taking them to the machine shop. By doing this first it can be determined if they are rebuildable and if it is cost effective as opposed to purchasing new or used heads. One of the problems encountered with a used set of heads is cracking. The heads should be cleaned with a wire brush and inspected for cracks, especially between the intake and exhaust valves. Not all cracks can be seen without magnafluxing, but larger, obvious cracks can be seen. The valves should be inspected for cracks. The valve guides tend to wear in an eccentric pattern and the valve springs always become weak over a period of time. Valve seals will be necessary. The head needs to be checked for warpage and the valves will need to be reseated.
Difficulty:Challenging
Instructions Things You'll Need
Small pencil magnet
Wire brush
Valve spring compressor

Step by Step :
1
Install the valve spring compressor. Make sure the bottom of the compressor is on the valve face and the top is securely on the valve spring. Compress the valve, then use the magnet and remove the valve keepers. Release the pressure on the valve and remove the compressor. Remove the valve spring and the valve. Do the same on all the valves.
2
Inspect the valve guides for cracks. Insert a valve and move it side-to-side to see if there is any side play. If there is, the valve guide will have to be knurled or replaced. Knurling is a way of tightening the guide up by using a tool like a drill bit to lift the metal inside the guide to make it tighter. This procedure does not last long enough to be worth the money as opposed to new guides.
3
Inspect the valve seats for uneven wear and cracks. If the seats are cracked, new valve guides will need to be installed.
4
Take the heads to the machine shop if no major abnormalities were noticed. It is good to have checked the heads first to make sure that the end result is as expected. If there are too many problems, a new set of heads or another set of used heads that is in better condition should be considered. The cost escalates very fast if complete service is needed.

If the valves, valve seats, springs and valve guides need to be replaced, plus the head needs to be resurfaced, it will cost more than a new set of heads. Tell the machinist to check the heads first for cracks (the cracks you won't be able to see with your naked eye) and give an estimate before work begins. A new set of performance heads might be the cheapest and best way to go.
5
Instruct the machine shop to rebuild the heads if you have come to the determination that it is cost effective to rebuild the heads. The head must go to the machine shop to be rebuilt, as the no person has the very expensive equipment needed to magnaflux the heads, surface the heads and cut the valves.
